Sugar Creek is in need of a Christian educator with a heart for youth and children’s ministries. Specifically, we are in search of an adult age 24 or older for the Children & Youth Director. A bachelor’s degree in children/youth/family ministries or a related field is preferred.

Overview

To offer the children (newborn through fifth grade) and youth (sixth grade through high school senior) of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church creative and effective programs, curriculum opportunities, and experiences to meet their spiritual, social, and relational needs

Overview
  1. Develop, coordinate, and supervise all Youth and Children’s Sunday School, as well as educational programs (ex: Bible studies, youth conferences, etc.), service and mission projects (ex: mission trips, volunteering at Midwest Missions, etc.) and social opportunities (ex: sports, movies, games, etc.) of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.
  2. Review, evaluate, and recommend curriculum for Youth Sunday school, Summer Learning programs, Bible study, and small group programs with emphasis on the use of United Methodist materials. Materials other than United Methodist may be used with the consent of the pastor.
  3. Train and support leaders involved in Children and Youth Ministries. This includes Safe Sanctuary training.
  4. Work with the Youth Ministries Team* to review and evaluate all aspects of Youth Ministries to ensure a balance of education, service, Bible Study, community, outreach, and fun.
  5. Work with Nursery Coordinator regarding nursery children’s needs.
  6. Maintain and monitor income and expenses of the Sugar Creek’s Children and Youth Ministries’ budgets.
  7. Monitor and assess the needs for/of Youth small group leaders, Sunday school teachers, VBS Leaders, etc.; and help acquire equipment, supplies, and resources as needed.
  8. Complete administrative tasks including but not limited to attending staff and team meetings, writing newsletter articles, communicating via texts and emails in a timely manner.
  9. Under supervision of the Directing Pastor, attend relevant church-paid seminars and continuing education for this position.
  10. Serve under the conditions of the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church Personnel Policy and specific issues determined by the Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by Directing Pastor.
* Sugar Creek United Methodist Church refers to committees as Teams.
prefered qualification
  1. Bachelor’s degree in children and youth ministries, related field, or equivalent. 
  2. A Christian having a good understanding of the Bible and Jesus’ teachings, and a heart for youth and children’s ministries.
  3. Thorough understanding of youth and children education methods and techniques; using effective communication skills relating to youth, parents, teachers, leaders, and volunteers.
  4. Proficiency in organizational, leadership, and ministry management skills.
  5. Ability to work effectively and efficiently, both individually and in a team environment.
  6. Maintain high standards, strict confidentiality, and Safe Sanctuary policies.
  7. Possess a valid Driver’s License, and pass a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) criminal background check.
  8. Computer skills with general knowledge of Microsoft Office, emailing, texting, social media.
  9. Outreach and community involvement with a willingness to network with other churches and organizations.
  10. Adult, minimum age of 24.
