Sugar Creek is in need of a Christian educator with a heart for youth ministries. Specifically, we are in search of an adult age 24 or older for the part-time Youth Director role. A bachelor’s degree in children/youth/family ministries or a related field is preferred.

Position reports to Directing Pastor and will serve on the Youth Ministries and
Leadership Teams.


To offer the youth (6th grade – high school senior) of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church creative and effective programs, curriculum opportunities, and experiences to meet their spiritual, social, and relational needs.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Develop, coordinate, and supervise all Youth educational programs (ex: Sunday school, Bible studies, youth conferences, etc.), service and mission projects (ex: mission trips, volunteering at MMDC, etc.) and social opportunities (ex: sports, movies, games, etc.) of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.
  2. Review, evaluate, and recommend curriculum for Youth Sunday school, Bible study and small group programs with emphasis on the use of United Methodist materials. Materials other than United Methodist may be used with the consent of the pastor.
  3. Train and support leaders involved in Youth Ministries. This includes Safe Sanctuary training.
  4. Work with the Youth Ministries Team to review and evaluate all aspects of Youth Ministries to ensure a balance of education, service, missions, community, outreach, and fun.
  5. Maintain and monitor income and expenses of the Sugar Creek Youth Ministries budget.
  6. Monitor and assess the needs for/of Youth small group leaders, Sunday school teachers, chaperons, etc.; and help acquire equipment, supplies, and resources as needed.
  7. Complete administrative tasks including but not limited to attending staff and team meetings, writing newsletter articles, communicating via texts, emails and social media in a timely manner.
  8. Under supervision of the Directing Pastor, attend relevant church-paid seminars and continuing education for this position.
  9. Serve under the conditions of the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church Personnel Policy and specific issues determined by the Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by Directing Pastor.
prefered qualification
  1. A Christian having a good understanding of the Bible and Jesus’ teachings, and a heart for youth.
  2. Thorough understanding of youth education methods and techniques; using effective communication skills relating to youth, parents, teachers, leaders, and volunteers.
  3. Proficiency in organizational, leadership, and ministry management skills.
  4. Ability to work effectively and efficiently, both individually and in a team environment.
  5. Maintain high standards, strict confidentiality, and safe sanctuary policies.
  6. Possess valid Driver’s License, and pass a criminal background check.
  7. General knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media (Facebook, Instagram, texting).Outreach and community involvement with a willingness to network with other churches and organizations.

Bachelor’s degree in youth ministries or related field.
