The Missions Team has selected a new IGRC missionary, Priscilla Legay Jaiah in Liberia. Rev. Priscilla Legay Jaiah is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church and the Superintendent of Ganta Mission Station of the United Methodist School in Liberia, West Africa.
As the Superintendent, she oversees the agricultural program, coordinates training, staff development programs and outreach activities, and engages with local and international partners to
increase funding for program support. In her former assignment as principal of the Ganta United Methodist School she oversaw the daily operation of the school as she helped to rebuild its facilities after the 2003 civil unrest in Liberia. She managed teams work teams, building and educational supplies and funds.
A native of Liberia, Priscilla learned to share her faith as a child, working with her mother in villages as a Sunday school teacher, youth worker, and choir member. She shares, “during my seven years of pastoring, I always felt the responsibility of meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of children, women, and the less fortunate in society.” She believes that the global church can “share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people who are victims of structural sin [and] bring freedom, justice and peace to God’s children here on earth.”
Due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, Connie Wieck (the missionary to China which we have supported in the past) is no longer assigned to China.
Sugar Creek will be sending monetary support for Priscilla as well as Willie Guillermo in Mexico, and Anita Ayers ministry, Africa ELI.
October 1 marks the kickoff date for the Sugar Creek fundraising event for the packing of rice meals through the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. Our goal is to raise at least $3000 to pack 1500 meals.
On October 1, the mission team will host a biscuit and gravy breakfast with a free will offering to go towards the rice meals. At that time, families may pick up an empty “rice bag” to collect coins, bills, etc. to be collected through the month of October. The congregation will then have an opportunity to pack rice meals after the worship service and a brunch served on November 19.
